With over 120 new cards, the new region Bilgewater, and 11 new champions, there is a ton to go over in Legends of Runeterra's Rising Tides update! Let's quickly look at the new cards, keywords, and mechanics, and keep in mind you can find
all the new Legends of Runeterra Rising Tides cards in our Card Database!
Bilgewater Champions
Bilgewater champions come in all shapes and sizes. From tiny Fizz to hulking Nautilus, and they all boast a unique playstyle!
Fizz
Fizz seems like he'll be just about as tricky and hard to kill in Legends of Runeterra as he is in League of Legends. On top of being elusive you can protect Fizz by casting a spell, negating any enemy spells that are targeting him! If you get a leveled Fizz you can use
Chum the Waters to summon
Longtooth to help you get the finishing blow on the nexus!
Gangplank
Oh, did you want to kill that
Powder Keg? Too bad!
Gangplank got there first. Gangplank excels at taking potshots at both you and your units by utilizing his Powder Keg and
Gangplank's Parrrley.
Miss Fortune
Miss Fortune brings the pain with direct damage to the enemy Nexus. This mimics LoL's Miss Fortune playstyle well, since she sits on the back line but is able to damage enemies behind their front line with Double Tap. Bullets will be flying everywhere and she will
Make it Rain.
Nautilus
Nautilus is the titan of late game. He's a massive blocker with great removal using
Nautilus's Riptide, and once he's leveled up he becomes a true terror of the deep!
Twisted Fate
Lady Luck is smilin'! I'm so happy to see
Twisted Fate join the Legends of Runeterra champion roster, and he's as fun as ever. Use
Twisted Fate's Pick a Card to pull up 3 cards for the turn and overwhelm your opponent with card advantage.
Bilgewater Decks
If you want to find decks for Bilgewater champions look no further! We have deck lists dedicated to each Bilgewater champion:
Other Champions
On top of the champions for the new region Bilgewater, Riot has added one champion to each of the existing regions!
Lee Sin - Ionia
Legends of Runeterra translates
Lee Sin from LoL quite well. With a spell cast he can use Challenger to directly combat an enemy - mimicking his Resonating Strike, and with another spell cast he'll gain Barrier, mimicking his Safeguard. We even get his signature move,
Lee Sin's Dragon's Rage, which can kick enemies straight into the nexus! It seems Lee Sin will be just as tough and tricky to play against as he is in LoL.
Maokai - Shadow Isles
Maokai is here for revenge in Rising Tides! Watch out for his
Saplings which can use their Challenger to pick off your units. Once Maokai level's up it's pretty much game over, Obliterating the enemy's deck.
Quinn - Demacia
You can't have
Quinn without
Valor! This Demacian Duo is here to dominate the battlefield using their scouting techniques to give you extra rounds of combat.
Sejuani - Freljord
Sejuani brings the
Fury of the North with her to Legends of Runeterra. She weakens the enemy line with Frostbite and Vulernable, and breaks through with Overhwlem. Sejuani is truly a formidable Freljordian!
Swain - Noxus
The Noxian Grand General has arrived in Runeterra.
Swain amplifies any damage that he does to the enemy nexus, making good use of his Fearsome.
Vi - Pitlover & Zaun
Vi is for... Victory! Punch your way to the enemy nexus using Vi's challenger, and surprise your opponent with how much damage you can do using
Vi's Vault Breaker. The Enforcer of Piltover takes no quarter!
New Champion Decks
Once again if you'd like to try out some decks for the new champions in Rising Tides take a look at their deck lists:
Rising Tides Mechanics and Keywords
LoR Rising Tides comes with an array of new mechanics and keywords. Let's quickly go over them.
Attune
Attune text reads "When I'm summoned, refill 1 spell mana." Creatures with Attune help you keep up tempo and play your combat tricks, while also getting creatures on the board.
Deep
Deep cards "Gains +3|+3 once your deck has 15 or fewer cards." This is a new keyword prominent in Bilgewater cards that's meant to synergize with the Toss mechanic.
Toss
Toss Obliterates X non-champion cards from the bottom of your deck. This usually means you're trading off cards at the bottom of your deck to trigger Deep, and some cards can even trigger abilities when they're tossed like
Keelbreaker.
Obliterate
The Obliterate mechanic isn't strictly new, in the original set there was one card that had it -
She Who Wanders. However, it's much more prevalent in Rising Tides so it's worth going over. Obliterated cards are completely removed from the game. Obliterate doesn't trigger Last Breath and can't be revived.
Plunder
Pirates need dat booty! A card triggers its plunder ability when played if you damaged the enemy Nexus this round, so plunder cards go well with aggressive decks and playstyles that will be pinging the nexus most rounds. (Especially with
Gangplank)
Scout
The first time only Scout units attack each round, ready your attack. This means if you attack with only Scout units, you essentially get an extra round of combat and attacking to wear down the enemy nexus.
Valor, to me!
Immobile
There are 2 new cards that have the immobile keyword. This simply means these units can't attack or block.
Strongest
Some new cards target the "Strongest" enemy unit. This means the unit with the highest Power, with ties broken by highest Health then highest Cost.
